Tóm tắt/ chú giải | : | The articles in this volume are working papers prepared for the sessions of the Society of Biblical Literature Pseudepigranha Group, to be held November 8 and 9, 1973, at the Palmer House in Chicago, Illinois, under the chairmanship of Prof. John Strugnell and the undersigned, with Prof. George W. MacRae serving as respondent. The assumption of Moses is the familiar title of the little document that is the subject of the present volume. It was so identified in 1861 by its first editor, Antonio Ceriani. His identification was based on patristic references to a work known as 'Aválns MWVOEWS, one of which quotes the first chapter of the work we are considering. In 1897, R.H. Charles argued in detail in his edition and annotated translation that the text was a testament of Moses, which had been prefixed to the work in as the Assumption of Moses, and that both of them then circulated under the latter title. He observed the Stichometry of Nicephorus lists in immediate succession a Testament of Moses (Alaohun Mwvołwc) and an Assumption of Moses (Iválnous Marotwc). In the present volume, we have adopted Charles' nomenclature. |
